A year full of anniversaries with TIES THAT BIND turning 10, the Udine Far East Film Festival celebrating its 20th and EAVE its 30th anniversary!
We are proud to celebrate 10 wonderful years of professional and personal collaboration between the FVG Audiovisual Fund, EAVE, and the Udine Far East Film Festival with the support of Creative Europe – MEDIA sub-programme of the European Union.
We are particularly grateful to our fantastic Asian partner, the Southeast Asian Audio-Visual Association (SAAVA), who has joined 3 years ago.
Thanks to this long-term partnership, TIES THAT BIND has become the reference for developing European-Asian co-productions in the past decade, with many concrete results, such as THE SEEN AND UNSEEN by Kamila Andini, winner of the Grand Prize of the Generation 14plus International Jury at Berlinale 2018, to mention only one of our many success stories.
Group work sessions are the core of TIES THAT BIND and we are delighted to celebrate our 10th edition with new group leaders on board: TTB alumni Bianca Balbuena (Epicmedia Productions, PH) and EAVE Producers Workshop alumni Jonas Weydemann (Weydemann Bros., DE), who will guide the participants’ discussion and analysis of each others’ projects from both the Asian and European perspective.
TIES THAT BIND will partner again with FOCUS ASIA, Industry Section of the Udine Far East Film Festival, organising public sessions for more than 100 film professionals from Europe and Asia.
This year FOCUS ASIA will put the spotlight on Product Placement in Film with guest speakers such as TTB Head of Studies Christophe Bruncher (Ici et Là Productions, FR), Jean-Patrick Flandé (Film Media Consultant, FR), Luca Tomat (Lotto, IT) and Stefano Taboga (Lotto, IT), and moderator Juliane Schulze (peacefulfish, DE). In addition, the participants will have an opportunity to meet product placement investors individually.
TTB will also tackle the latest distribution trends in Asia in a session with the title “Soft or Hard Sell? How Intl Distributors can Tailor their Line-up for the Asian Market” by Todd Brown (XYZ, US), Michael Werner (HK), Brice Tsao (IQIYI, CN), Pamela Bai (Hugoeast, CN) and Gilbert Lim (Sahamongkol Film, TH).
As a novelty in 2018, we will organise round tables and individual meetings with leading decision makers attending FOCUS ASIA: Asian and European buyers, sales agents and festival programmers such as Lee Yein Teng (Astro, MY), Cora Yim (Fox Network Group, HK), Bruce D. Lee (Entermode, KR), Michaelangelo Masangkay (Raven Banner Entertainment, US), Leslie Saussereau (Premium Films, FR), Silvia Simonutti (Wild Bunch, FR), Stephan Holl (Rapid Eye Movies, DE), among others.
Sibylle Kurz (Pitching Consultant, DE), Clare Downs (Script Consultant, UK) and Roger Garcia (Hong Kong International Film Festival, HK) have been with us since the first edition of TTB!
Sibylle Kurz will be coaching the participants how to fine-tune their pitches and embrace pitching as a development tool. Clare Downs will introduce the main script development tools to strengthen the participants’ understanding of narrative principles, in order to enable them to assist their writers during the development process. Roger Garcia will give insight into Asian cinema in an interview conducted by Mathew Scott.
Also on the programme: Individual coaching sessions on marketing strategies with Álvaro Vega (DobleSentido, ES), broadcasters in Europe by Meinolf Zurhorst (ZDF/ARTE, DE), pitching to private investors by Juliane Schulze (peacefulfish, DE), financing opportunities in Asia by Gin Kai Chan (Silver Media Group, SG). Jongsuk Thomas Nam (Buchon International Fantastic Film Festival – BiFan, KR) and Sten-Kristian Saluveer (Storytek, EE) will give insight in genre films, and Thierry Jobin (Fribourg IFF & Visions Sud Est, CH) will advise the participants on festival strategies.
The first TTB workshop will take place in Udine (Italy) from April 24 – 28, 2018 within the framework of the 20th edition of the Udine Far East Film Festival (April 20 – 28, 2018). The second TTB workshop will be organised in Singapore from December 3 – 7, 2018, during the Southeast Asian Film Financing Forum (SAFF).
TIES THAT BIND is organised by Friuli Venezia Giulia Audiovisual Fund, EAVE, Udine Far East Film Festival and Southeast Asian Audio-Visual Association (SAAVA) and supported by the Creative Europe – MEDIA sub-programme of the European Union as well as Silver Media Group and Aurora Global Media Capital.
